RV Girls High School

OUR HISTORY

Every April, the girls of RV Middle School would cry piteously when they received their transfer certificates. They would plead with the Headmaster, asking not to leave their school for a new one. “Why can’t you start a girls’ high school here, sir?” they would ask. The headmaster could only shrug helplessly as the campus was already shared by the Middle School, the Boys High School and the Teachers College, leaving no room for expansion.

In 1962, with the Boys High School moved to the Teachers College campus, several empty classrooms were left behind. On 7th June 1962, RV Girls High School opened with twenty-five girls seated at their desks, relieved and happy to finally have a place of their own.

In the sixties, educating women was a notion often overlooked. Yet Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust stood apart, recognising the significance of educating young girls. It was Sri. M.C. Shivananda Sarma who, with a vision and foresight, breathed life into this idea. Under the expert guidance of the then Hon. Secretary Sri. D.A. Pandu, RVGHS – a modest seed was sown. This brainchild found a steady hand in Sri. K. Nanjundaswamy, who led it until 1988.

Over the decades, that seed has flourished into a mighty tree, its branches now sheltering nearly four hundred eager minds.

From the very beginning, the institution took upon itself the task of guiding first-generation learners. It shapes well-balanced individuals, instilling in them academic excellence alongside a strong moral compass. The students are encouraged to join the Science Club, the Humanities Club, language clubs and others alike, each offering a space for exploration and growth.

To commemorate fifty years of excellence, a special souvenir, “Suvarna Sinchana,” was unveiled on 21st December, 2011. The Inter High School Music Competition, first introduced in 1966, celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2015. The event, “Suvarna Gana Ganga,” welcomed prize winners from across the years, honouring them for the laurels they had brought to the school.

In 2023, the school reached yet another milestone — its Diamond Jubilee. On 7th April, a new souvenir, “Vajra Vibha,” was released to celebrate the school’s history and its several achievements. As we look back, we are proud of how much we have achieved and remain focused on accomplishing even more in the years to come.
