Sivananda Sarma, our institutions stand as a testament to his legacy, carrying forward his ideals with unwavering dedication.
Today, with a network of almost 28 institutions under one roof, RVEI extends to learners of all ages, from nurturing young minds in kindergarten to fostering intellect at different centres of higher learning.

Sri. M.C. Sivananda Sarma was born to Sri. Kalamma and Sri. Kapanna in the small village of Madarahalli, located about 5 km from T. Narasipura. Despite coming from a farming background, Sri. Sarma’s deep love for knowledge and his mother’s encouragement led him to pursue education. He joined the renowned Siddaganga Mutt in Tumkur to pursue his education in Sanskrit and continued his academic journey at Sri. Chamarajendra Sanskrit College, Bengaluru. After which, he completed his ‘Sahitya Visharada’ in Allahabad.
Sri. Sarma was deeply influenced by visionaries such as Mahatma Gandhi and Sri. Madan Mohan Malaviya, which inspired him to take part in the freedom struggle. He was also imprisoned for a short period for his involvement. It was this zeal to make a change that led him to discover his life’s true purpose - providing education to the future citizens of Independent India.
To gain further insights, he travelled across India, visiting various prestigious educational institutions such as Shantiniketan and Kangadi Guruka, founded by Swamy Shraddananda. His vision, knowledge and dedication culminated in a single fulcrum point in 1940, when he established RV Higher Primary School, a classroom of six students in Visweshwarapuram, Bengaluru — the foundation of what we now know as Rashtreeya Vidyalaya.
As classes were initially held in rented premises, including the Arasoji Rao Charitable Trust, Sri. Sarma sought a permanent home for the school. In December 1943, he secured land near Lalbagh West Gate, Bengaluru, from the city authorities.
At just 29 years of age, he set the stage for the unimaginable growth of RV Educational Institutions. He believed that education is key to strengthening individuals to fulfil their aspirations. It is precisely this belief that RV Educational Institutions commits to, by providing the best possible infrastructure and learning environment for its students.
Sri. Sarma served as its Founder Secretary until his demise in 1969.

A Rajyotsava awardee for his contributions to the field of industry & education, Dr. M.K. Panduranga Setty was a celebrated industrialist and a pioneer for many leading educational establishments. In 1974, he ascended as the President of Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust (RSST) and worked diligently for the successful development of RV Educational Institutions (RVEI).
Driven by the mission of "Excellence in Education with Societal Commitment," he was instrumental in shaping RVEI into a pioneer of quality education for academic distinction in almost all spheres of learning. He continuously encouraged students to learn beyond their textbooks, nurturing their soft skills, igniting their creative spark and fostering a spirit of innovation. By providing opportunities in academics, sports and arts, he championed a well-rounded education that honed intellect and sculpted prominent leaders of tomorrow.
Beyond his remarkable contributions to education, Dr. M.K. Panduranga Setty was also celebrated for his entrepreneurial vision and industry expertise. His guidance and wisdom steered RVEI toward numerous accolades, establishing it as a beacon of excellence in education.
However, his true legacy lies in his belief that each one holds the potential to inspire future generations. His dedication was not just to an institution, but to the countless success stories it continues to create.
